EMDR
(Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

We don’t get over trauma.

We learn to live with it, but the consequences can have a profound impact on you, both emotionally and physically, making it difficult to move forward positively.

Vivid memories or images can suddenly appear, leaving you feeling constantly jumpy, uneasy, and easily overwhelmed as you worry about the experience happening again. Intense emotions, rage, and uncontrollable anger can appear suddenly.

Reliving that event over and over can cause you to shut down, leave your body mentally stressed, and go numb. Nightmares or intrusive thoughts keep occurring; the thought of that past event can create body sensations, such as a racing heart, tension, headaches, or nausea.

Intense reactions suddenly arise that don’t match what is happening in the moment, and you may feel excessive shame or self-blame for the things that happened to you.

EMDR can help your mind and body feel safe again.

EMDR is a therapeutic approach that helps your brain process past experiences that got “stuck.” When you experience overwhelming things, the brain sometimes can’t file the experience away like a typical memory.

EMDR employs a structured process and bilateral stimulation through eye movements, alternating between the left and right sides, to help your brain reprocess those memories so they become less distressing and more integrated into your narrative, without requiring you to relive every detail.

It is a well-known therapeutic approach for treating trauma and can be helpful with many issues, such as: Single-incident trauma: accidents, assaults, medical trauma, natural disasters; Ongoing or childhood trauma: emotional, physical, sexual abuse, neglect; Difficult relationships, attachment wounds, unbearable breakups; Grief and loss; Anxiety, panic, and phobias; Shame, low self-worth and I’m not good enough beliefs; or Stress from bullying, discrimination or chronic invalidation.

Regardless of the trauma, you deserve to be happy and at peace.

Put trauma in the past.

EMDR therapy is a proven technique for helping you recover from the impacts of past trauma.

Together, we can work to help you reprocess those memories and replace them with more positive ones.
